Minmay popularity

Was she just a government mouthpiece all along?

You say that like you expect the ultraplebs that now infest Any Forums to know who Lynn Minmay is.

>Was she just a government mouthpiece all along?

She was a symbol of hope in dire circumstances.

How much entertainment do you think there was on a battleship stranded out on the edge of the fucking solar system? I bet Pauly Shore could have packed a house on the Macross.

I had a big wake-up call to that thanks to, of all things, Miitopia. One of the classes is Pop Star, and I made Minmay because I was surprised no one else had done it already. Turned out no one knew who the hell she was. I always figured that Macross was one of those shows like Dragon Ball or Speed Racer where people still knew about it even if they never watched it, but it turns out it's been forgotten.

Macross is still well known among people who watch retro anime. Plus, Obote imasu ka is still one of the most iconic anime songs of all time. Makes sense that normies would have no idea who she is though.

I finished episode 30 of this show a couple days ago.
Kinda surprised how the war with the Zentradi went. Everyone on Earth basically getting genocided wasnt something I expected from an early 80s mecha show.
Also, fuck Kaifun. I hate that jackass. I hope Minmay gets with Hikaru.

Yes, but she seemed rather propped up by local entities, beyond what her fame might have warranted.
>tfw no Pauly Shore Gets Trapped on the SDF-1 90s comedy

>the Earth bombardment
Shit was fucking harsh to lay on some 80s kids.
>There is yet another planetary annihilation later on when the Invid arrive

>Macross
its more obscure than your mom's asshole user, 0.1% of anime watchers know what Macross is

>.1%
That is still literally billions of adults and children

she could've released a bunch of singles

why would you think that? db and speed racer were played on foreign tv all the time

I was thinking about that. The internet doesn't seem to be in the story, but it doesn't not exist, so she may have been a soundcloud star or something first

She did live shows and competitions for the most part before getting an album together.

Total annihilation was a common theme in 80’s sci-fi— Probably because the shellshock of both WW2 and the Cold War still manifested itself in the arts.

This. Hikaru even mentions that he listened to all her singles in DYRL.

>singles
This supports her whole "medly" thing, and the people in the crowd will already know some or most of the old material.

I know the character, the song and Macross in general but I’ve never watched it because it looked like Mecha.

a new act putting out singles before they have enough of an established fanbase to make the cost of producing and manufacturing, promoting a full LP was the common progression too, back when physical stores and radio play was the only way to sell on a large scale.

>Shopping at the record store
>In the girlpop section
>See a fellow connoisseur browsing similar music, since that is how music stores are arranged
Streaming was a mistake

>tfw Macross is meant to be set in 2009

I feel ancient watching these old sci-fi series that are set in years that may as well be ancient history by now.
