How the fuck is using your Nen to its fullest possible extent considered cheating? That's like saying Goku cheats whenever he has to power up to Super or Ultra when his non-saiyan opponent can't.

He didn't "cheat" but he stacked the deck, which is poetic in a sense I guess.

However, Hisoka got shafted. The only reason Hisoka ever went through all that effort was to fight Chrollo one on one, without the spiders bumrushing him all at once. During the YN arc, Hisoka commented that he was always escorted by at least two spiders.
Hisoka didn't just go after him because he wanted to focus his attention on Chrollo alone. In the end, Chrollo "cheated" him, he had his two spiders with him in the fight.

Reason being that he borrowed their powers, something he could not have done without their concent and presence. Their powers should not be available to him if Chrollo were to truely give Hisoka a one on one, else why would Hisoka have gone through all that effort? he might as well have challenged him at any time prior if he had to fight chrollo and two other spiders anyway.
Which is also the reason why Hisoka said fuck it, and is going after all of them at once. Chrollo did not agree to fight Hisoka, he set out to remove a thorn in his side.

I need you guys to understand one thing, Chrollo is a specialist, which means his enhancing potential is only at 16%, Hisoka is a transmuter, which means his enhancing potential is at 64%, there is no way for Chrollo to be able to keep up with him in close quarters 1v1. In fact if you look at the arm-wrestling contest it's mostly just a graph of how close they are to enhancement.

His close combat abilities have been noted by Silva. Regardless of his showing, it was stated that he had improved, so he is clearly training in Ryu or something similar.
Also, he did fight (with some success) against Silva and Zeno, though Zeno is clearly much better than him at it, but that's not a slight against him, Zeno is probably one of the best humans in the world at hand to hand.

That said, Hisoka's nen allows for unlimited adaptability and he is most certainly physically stronger and probably has higher MoP and AoP

Wrong, Specialists aren't restricted to the same hexagon % relation to other categories, the fact that Manipulators and Conjurers are the most likely to become Specialists is the only reason for its position, as far as we're told.
There's nothing stopping an Enhancer to eventually develop into a Specialist with a unique Hatsu and nonetheless great Enhancement compatibility.

anyway. 64% of what? it's "64" % of their OWN aura. someone's 16% might be higher than someone else's 80%.
