DB is a masterpiece, and DBZ has a lot of cool ideas and stories but is filled with endless and boring battles because Toriyama didn't know how to fucking ended and couldn't stop writing for a while to get new and exciting ideas.

But yeah, people who claim its the better part just need to feel special, but don't want to resort to hate the whole thing.
The few times a character "surpass" Goku pre-Z IS because their power level is higher.
You just are so edgy you can't fathom the fact that if you aren't given a number there's still a power difference.

Ten didn't get to do shit other than job at the Piccolo arc.
And obviously Krillin was out of the Piccolo arc and just jobbed at the 23rd.
It was way more Goku-centric then, the part where side-characters get to shine more is on Z, not before. Then again, you do have to actually read the manga instead of watching DBZA.

Dragon Ball has one of the most iconic and unique aesthetic in the entertainment industry.
There's a reason why its a worldwide success.
Whether you watched the show or not, everyone knows what planet namek looks like. Everyone knows what a Super Saiyan looks like.
Everyone recognises the Kame House, the Cell Tournament fighting arena, the venue where the Tenkaichi Budokai is held, etc.
Show anyone the strange igloo shaped houses and they'll know its Dragon Ball. Show anyone a simple drawing of a convertible by done Toriyama and people will think of dragon ball.

The Goku wank was way more prevalent in OG DB than it ever was in Z. He was a borderline mary sue.
