The least offensive "muh racism" plot I've seen. Would have been art ending after season 1. But I liked the characters and ending enough I don't even care about it transitioning to generic

Nothing, it was excellent.

The story was too stupid, contrived, and preachy. The anime staff did their best at least.

It was pretty good. Especially the last few episodes. The direction was pretty much movie quality. People here seemed to like it too while it was airing.

Season 1 was good. Surprisingly enjoyed it. Should've ended here.

The hateboner some people have for this show is hilarious considering how positive the reception was when it aired. Is it /m/ at it again?

S2 being more than just the last two episodes.

Nah, just election tourists who heard secondhand that the show is about 'racism bad' and had a kneejerk reaction trying to tear down the show as SJW propaganda to destroy the white race.

the story could have been written by a teen. If this is good by today's standards then anime is doomed.

Solid war drama first cour, mediocre second cour beyond redeemed by the last 2-3 episodes, to the point of where I look back at the second cour more fondly than the first. The attention to detail is phenomenal; It probably holds up as both the best and most faithful LN adaptation in a while, if not ever.
They adapted the "worst" source material (LN 2&3) in cour 2 and managed to pull out a decent story.
