It's basically the same as now. In Japan there were less mentally ill groups like Fatetards & idolfags. In the west we still had niwaka complaining about anime being popular "now" (it was always popular) and other obnoxious normalfags. Both the east and west have to deal with South-Asians making those communities significantly worse.
