What is it about the popularity of a series that turns people's mental facilities off?
Take Spy x Family. Literally zero reason it should be top 10 all time on MAL and only got that position due to its popularity. Then you go look at the reviews for a better show airing concurrently like Healer Girl; something that isn't episodic, has actual character progression, unique delivery and a high quality of art throughout the show and all the sudden people become fucking Robert Christgau, detailing every single microscopic flaw but cannot do the same for the show they're deepthroating.
Is popularity and sense of community really THAT strong of a factor to effect how hard you come down on something??
If you want to stop caring about MAL then just read some of the reviews that people write. Populated by spics at twelve year olds.

Why the fuck did you expect the MAL top list to be anything but a popularity contest? And you don't exactly have too be a good writer and thoughtful reviewer to write an anime review on your blog. At the same time, when shit gets popular that usually correlates to a lot of people enjoying it. And so it's pretty natural that they rate it highly. You might not like it as much, but that's no reason to get all indignant about it. And let's face it, as much as popular things can be popular because of viral recognition and teens being natural pack animals rather than actual quality a lot of the complaints about this or that popular thing lacking quality is also just a reflexive reaction to the popularity rather than the show itself. It's just run through the contrarian filter instead of the bandwagon one.
