Why do most of the best selling GL manga have every little in common with each other?

Here are the names and sales data for anyone interested.
>Kitanai top 10 best selling series of its genre
>author decides to end it abruptly with a shit ending for no reason
I genuinely thought it had been axed.
What a certified hack.
>Kashimashi
Genderbending isn’t yuri.
Dragon Maid 39 Volumes? Pretty sure it only has 12.
Because GL is basically an umbrella term for a genre that goes from shoujo romance to seinen ecchi and backwards.
I heard that it was originally supposed to end after 3 volumes but they got the author to extend it past that.
Normally I agree but the genderbending in Kashimashi is the least offensive part about it. Still, it says a lot that it and Maria Holic were the best selling "yuri" titles before Yuru Yuri/Citrus came along.
I feel like it's also counting spinoff mangas too.
It has 3 million sales across all of its spin-offs, which I believe total to 39 volumes.
Yes, but I guess most of it is from the main series, so it would be wrong to average with 39.
Rather than best selling, I think this list is just of those series that have data avaliable to be compared, also I'm not sure if the number of volumes match when the data was given.
Most of the data I found was through this spreadsheet (which provides a source):
docs.google.com
Classic yuri manga such as Lucoa wa Boku no xx Desu or Okomorigurashi no Fafnir.
What other popular yuri series are there besides the ones on the chart? The only ones I can think of are Hana ni Arashi, Hino-san, and Virgins’ Empire. Maybe Tadokoro-san if you include web manga.
>Why do most of the best selling GL manga have every little in common with each other?
Probably because they appeal to very different demographics which allows them to sell on their own terms.
Some of these titles I wouldn't even consider real yuri and I know I'm not the only one.
It's not over until the fat lady sings.
>Genderbending isn’t yuri.
>/u/fags' mantra
Everything is yuri if 2 biological women have romantic/sexual relationship.
Sasakoi anime when
I don't want no fat lady in my GL.
If Lesbian Fuuzoku Anthology counts it's on the list with 33k each volume. OshiBudo is on 125k a volume. Beyond the list maybe adaptations like Adashima or Villainess do well as manga.
Even if it has decent numbers it's hard to imagine 2DK would be top 20 if full data was available.
So things like Simoun or Blue Drop aren't yuri since the characters aren't women?
