I get it as gifts sometimes
I buy used jp manga cause it's cheap and jp releases fucking rock. cover illustrations are always beautiful, spine art too
I buy Japanese manga because it helps me practice reading the language, and I find it easier to flip through a physical copy than digital, especially if I'm just looking for a specific image. Also I got annoyed with errors etc. in translations giving me wrong impressions of things and looking something up only to find "well ACKSHULLY in the original Japanese it really says...," like fine I guess I have to do this my damn self.
Also sometimes shit just hasn't been translated + isn't online, or a translated copy would cost way more than just buying the original.
If I like the series I'll buy the first volume or two, takes too much space to collect the whole thing unless it's less than 10 volumes in total
I want to but I live in a humid place and they'd get yellow.
if anyone knows a solution that isn't putting them in bags that'd be great
you could purchase a dehumidifier for your room
I live in a fucked place for humidity but just keeping them out of direct sunlight has really helped with keeping them in good condition. The pages still get stiff though, I hate it
yellowing makes them feel SOULFUL
i pick up random volumes if i find them in comic stores/used bookstores, there are a few series i definitely want to start collecting though
Used too and I still buy a couple series but there's not really a whole lot that interests me these days.
I keep mine in cardboard boxes like these. Stored in a closet. No yellowing and no dust.
Just keep them out of sunlight, I live in a humid place and I’ve had a problem with them yellowing
never had*
with sunlight you mean even indirect sunlight from curtains for example?
What you're worried about in particular is the UV rays from sunlight damaging the paper, so you want to keep it as shielded as possible.
Yeah I started this past year, so far I'm up to date on Chainsaw Man, Fire Punch and Berserk.
I'm currently acquiring One Punch Man (Got 4 volumes so far) and I'll be grabbing the first Mato Seihei No Slave when it's english release arrives in July.
I just started buying manga for the very first time after reading manga online since the mid 1990s. I read manga scans as far back as bulletin boards, reading stuff like bondage fairies.
My first purchases
1. Fire Punch vol 1.
2. new Death Note short stories
3. Dai Dark vol 2,3,4 I found at a local shop. First local shop I've ever found that contains non entry level manga, they had some other good stuff.
I am happy just to give money to the creators I really like.

Same here. I buy volumes of chapters I know I enjoy and use it for Japanese learning practice.
Here's my question: what do you eventually do with old volumes? I know that in Japan a lot of magazines and tankobon are lent out or recycled and not always kept. What do you do with your old manga, gaijin-san?
probably give them to local library
Absolutely fucking not. I either torrent it or download it from apps like Tachiyomi or Anyiyomi. Aniyomi can download manga, comics, and anime if you installed the right sources. Even Western shit like the Sonic movies or sitcoms is available so it effectively makes using literally any streaming service unnecessary. Provided the sources and the app never become non-functional, I will never ever ever have to use a streaming service for anything. A lot of you probably already knew about the services but you still choose to buy physical books anyway because you are cucks.
No, we choose to buy physical copies because we're grown ups.
