I've heard VLC is good for that as it doesn't distort the voices as much

I think it depends on the show. Some need 2x especially older series just because they had air time to waste with their glacial pacing.

Putting it on x2 doesn’t solve the pacing problems it just makes it weird. You could also read the manga as well.
