this. I also think Saito ruined the original manga and that she was the strongest character out of any of the cast. Her need to prove herself resonated deeply with me and I could much easier relate to her instead of the directionless and sex obsessed saito who only wanted to return home when I had already been forced to move out by that point in my life with nearly nothing.

The story was not just good because of crossover potential and still is. but because of Louise strong emotional story want that resonates with the audience. Keep in mind that it is very rare for a story want to align with the audience in a fantasy setting so the fact that the want and the need can be something an audience can directly relate to is ignobly ignored for typical boring Japanese MC chicanery. I wish I could revive the author and explain this to him.
