Lava is hotter than your tpical wood burning flame, but fire can become hotter than magma. It depends on how much Ace was able to raise the temperature of his fire.
Besides magma is molten rock and can snuff out fire the same way sand can do it if you throw it on an open flame, that might've played a role as well.

Lava is a physical substance. Fire is a chemical reaction of combustion. Lava can smother fire, the same way a landslide would. Without oxygen, fire is extinguished, but because lava is a substance that has been superheated, lava can continue to burn even when underwater.

I'm going to ignore the fact that lava is absolutely hotter than fire, and that we never saw any evidence from Ace that he could burn as hot as magma could. Because that's a pointless argument, and if the manga says Ace couldn't burn that hot, then you've got nothing to complain about that isn't just cope.

Akainu's exact words were "magma consumes fire," which is correct. It would, because magma would just roll the fuck over fire and overwhelm it, because it's a physical substance with mass and inertia, it would smother fire. That's just basic logic. How the fuck would fire counter magma? The only way is if Ace could somehow burn hot enough to VAPORIZE the rock (or whatever substance Akainu is secreting). He would have to heat it up so much that it turns into a gas, and if Ace could do that, he could have probably solo'd the admirals and walked his own ass out of there without help.

You should be complaining about how Ace fell for Akainu's taunting and trash talk, when they literally had already won and were in the process of escaping. They could have fucking left and everyone would have lived if Ace had just not fallen for obvious baiting. Oda made Ace behave like a fucking retard, and it was a massive cop-out to allow the pirates to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. It only happened because Oda wanted to have his cake and eat it, too. He wanted the scene where Luffy frees Ace, but he didn't want Ace to live. He should have just had the rescue attempt fail, and forced Luffy and the other pirates watch as Ace was executed. Ace dying because he's too stupid to just run away in a straight line is ridiculous.
