LotGH is the best anime of all time and the only anime that I would consider one of the 5 best series ever made (the only non live action one).

Great anime (top 50), mediocre adaptation (top 1000), amazing source material (top 5)

Great character design and a decently comfortable watch, but nowhere near the best anime of all time. Even as an adaptation it is pretty mediocre.

Not at all, but okay. Compare the original OVA to Die Neue These so far. There is no comparison, the latter is mediocre. As an adaptation the OVA brings its source material to life, the product being a seminal classic in the space opera genre for anime, hence why it is continually brought up as one of the best anime ever for its scope and characters.
