Oda's character designs, expressions, backgrounds and paneling were much better during early OP.

It peaked in Water 7
It’s cause they had to compete against bleach where the art is so empty. Now everything is so clutter jvh2k
Many such cases
I miss small bewbs Nami
Compare Luffy's hand and face.
>highly expressive cartoony soul
>vs muh real is better because real
I feel like doing weekly chapters for 25+ years has officially taken a toll on his ability to ink, that's really the key issue with new chapters. Lines are a lot thicker and shakier which doesn't mesh well with the insistence on using crowd scenes.
I do think One Piece tends to look better in physical volumes too, and the color version alleviates the readability problems, but age catches up with you eventually. The dudes in his 50s.
God do I hate these "Soul" arguments. It reeks of hipster/alternative bullshit.
The story was less complex back then. Now he has like a dozen plot points at LEAST running simultaneously at any given time.
>nooo you can't use highly descriptive concise words that sum up the issue you have to write an essay every time so I can just say tl;dr nooooo
So does HxH but it still has good clean paneling outside of a few text dump pages
Water 7/Enies Lobby, yeah.
Even with nominally higher stakes, little has felt as hype worthy.
Luffy's expression on the left is one of pure excitement elation, innocence and joy.
Luffy's expression on the right is just "we're still fucking doing this? oh well, smile i guess" betraying inner fatigue and desensitization.
Despite all the busier right panel with better colors and more detail, the image on the right has so much feeling in it. Its kind of sad and amazing.
How does Oda not open up an old volume and instantly see how bad he’s gotten?
original robin > timeskip robin
though sw robin beats both of them
But yet he's still got it.
Left makes me wanna laugh. Right doesn't make me feel anything.
Agreed
Like Tomino he thinks whatever he is outputting now is the best he ever made
I really miss short hair/small chest nami, why did oda turn her into a bimbo. I don't think luffy really looks that bad, just more "realistic". It feels a little more dead though don't know why, make it's the eyes, he's not looking at the audience
