Gets an asspull power-up because a character he barely knew died

>Gets an asspull power-up because a character he barely knew died

Isn't that basically the same as Gohan turning SS2? he literally never talked with 16 before his death

Ss2 was foreshadowed during all of Z up to cell games

Yeah, both series are garbage. They are shonen after all.

Gon knew Kite since he was a little kid

Bro that looks so fucking retarded lmao

Show, don't tell. It's something Togashi simply doesn't know how to do (eg: all the offscreen training in YYH).

We are told Gon knew Kite, we are never shown that Gon knew Kite

He's in chapter 1

>Secondaries
Kite is Shanks tier

It's literally shown to you in chapter 1 retard

>a character he barely knew
Let me guess: You've only ever seen the 2011 anime, never read the manga or seen the 1999 anime, right?

2011 animeonly spotted

They met for like two seconds in the beginning and when they next see each other after Greed Island arc Kite doesn't even recognize or remember Gon until he explains he was Ging's son from the time when hr accidentally a foxbear.
I agree with OP that his reaction was way over the top for someone he met in passing when younger and then spent a few days working with more recently on the chimera ant biohazard mission.

Literally less than half of chapter 1. I'm not expecting one piece level of consistency but this is just awful writing.

Kite is literally the first character we are introduced to in the manga and is the focus of Chapter 1. The anime moved it to a flashback. Kite is also the reason Gon decided to become a Hunter. He knew that Hunter and thought he was cool. Whenever Gon was talking about wanting to become a Hunter, he was thinking "I want to become like Kite!". This is never told, but it is obvious because Kite is the only exposure Gon would have to Hunters.

Also, Gon is not just sad that Kite died. Kite died protecting him, so Gon is reasonably feeling guilty over Kite's death.

Gon likes Kite and meeting him was a trigger for his whole journey and it's all that matters. You don't need a retarded sob backstory for every character, this isn't attack on titan.

This was the worst choice the author could have done. Not because it looks dumb or because it's an asspull, but simply because it removed all usefulness Gon had.
The way this Nen ability worked was he would gain all potential he ever had all at once, in exchange he would lose all Nen powers.
Now he's a normal person, and the author isn't even using Gon any more.
Is he even the Main Character any more? Like what do you do with that? Write a whole new power system so he's useful again?
Dumb.

Reminder that Pitou would just have fucking killed Gon in half a second if he didnt go supersaiyan. All that talk about Gon's "sacrifice" is nonsensical.

Kite and Gon not remembering eachother is anime-only.

Also, Kite literally saved Gon's life as a child, scolded him for an afternoon, and told him his dad was alive. Which is the only reason Gon decides to become a Hunter, as Mito did not plan to tell him ik the manga.

So if Kite did not arrive to Whale Island, Gon would be dead. And if he had somehow miraculously escaped the bear, he'd have never become a Hunter.

You're not supposed to be the main character this isn't isekai.

If the author tells you this guy and this guy have been friends forever you just take it for granted. With that being said the scene was still stupid, not only did Kite lose to a girl, Gon had to use some kind of superpower to merely beat her and Meruem the big bad guy is left for the old man to fight. At the very least the story should've been Gon going all out in anger against the cat girl then beating up Meruem, then finally graduating to being an adult and being able to transform from kid to adult at will as a new power.

Manga is not named GONxGON

>Kite doesn't even recognize or remember Gon until he explains he was Ging's son
Anime only

You could have Killula die instead and then it would make more sense as a reaction for Gon to have.
No ides what you mean by "sob backstory." The issue is he hardly had any personal connection at all to Kite aside from being punched by him once when younger.

Not that it really changes anything but what was the point of them having him not recognize Gon in the shitty 2011 anime?

>Isn't that basically the same as Gohan turning SS2? he literally never talked with 16 before his death
It wasn't just that 16 was killed in front of him. It was 16's monologue that he said to him that really helped in the end.

Madhouse changed a bunch of random shit for no reason
