A great fantasy race that is ultimately only good in the hands of a competent writer. Which the japanese do not seem to possess. There are some exceptions, but overall japanese elves are way, way worse or just boringly mediocre in anime and manga, unremarkable, reduced to sex slaves or one-dimensional waifus with no men to be seen anywhere.

Generic fantasy races have been run into the core of the earth in the West, but there've been numerous good embellishments or twists on their formulas. Meanwhile Japan may have more elf usage than even the West and you're lucky if they even follow the most stereotypical beats (long-lived, haughty, mystical, naturefags) and aren't just rape bait humans with pointy ears.
