Sakura and Shirou just make the cutest couple, but Archer and Rin is also my favorite. Overall I'd say Shirou is an amazing protagonist.

Probably because waking up to an alarm clock it's easier to portray on screen compared to be woken up by the morning sunlight.
The alarm clock itself it's also way easier to depict on screen that the sunlight which has no "physical" form.
While I can understand why they did it, I still don't like it.

I like their Sakura scenes though. It shows the director's priorities and for that is based. My main complaint was the last fight which I nonetheless enjoyed and the Nine Lives Blade Works with the spin definitely being stupid. I preferred the animation in the game for Nine Lives.

Reading Heaven's Feel made me appreciate her more although she is probably my least favorite of the main 3. It's also a shame that if you go to the Tiger Dojo early in the route it's immediately obvious what the big twist is.

She lacks focus in the other routes so it makes sense. I'm glad they finally adapted Heaven's Feel so normies could understand the beauty of Sakura. Sure she may not be an action heroine like Rin or Saber, but I'd definitely marry and have a comfy life with her as a trad wife while fucking everyday.
