ITT: rant about an anime you hate

I’ll start us off:

Overlord is a terrible and gay nihilistic power fantasy filled to the brim with torture porn. Ainz is an unlikeable, evil, spineless wimp who is simultaneously a Mary Sue and is not allowed to lose anything. Hell, Nazarick as a whole isn’t even allowed to be threatened in general - the strongest adventurer in the world barely managed to beat Nazarick fodder, and said fodder would just be resurrected if it was killed. There is no stakes, and all of the actually interesting characters get tortured/raped to death by monsters lead by a skeleton faggot who would be a school shooter in another life.

Do you actually want anons to do a hate circlejerk of their own respective series or just want to shit on overlord and argue about it? By including your own suggestion in the OP, instead of the first post, means most of the discussion will be centred around that, instead of other series.

I think it's like a parody of the old testament. From the loyalty of the npcs (prophets) to the fantasy element.
>Old Testament
>Where's your God?
>(BOOM!) IM HERE.
The author is trying to say might is right.

>Do you actually want anons to do a hate circlejerk of their own respective series
This.

Probably shouldn’t have put all of that in the op, yeah, but it’s too late to change it.

Retard

I’ll bite because i kind of agree but i still need to watch season 2 and 3

I feel like ainz would be a way more insteresting character if either the other characters didn’t see him as a flawless god who can do no wrong or if ainz was actually insane and really wanted to rule over everything

All the monsters are cool and quirky specially pandora’s actor but it doesn’t matter if all they ever do is praise ainz and argue over who is better at praising ainz, i loved them in isekai quartet because ainz gets to really become friends with the other MC and the monsters get to interact with people that doesn’t think ainz is the best at everything, their love for ainz actually has good comedic effect there

>Overlord is a nihilistic power fantasy filled to the brim with torture porn. Ainz is an unlikeable, evil, spineless wimp and is not allowed to lose anything.
yes
that doesnt mean it's bad
do you think the main character cant be flawed

Later seasons just kinda double down on what OP said

I hate RE:ZERO
At first it is supposed to be a deconstruction of the isekai genre, telling you that you are not strong enought to prevail the way you are and you need to change. But the characters themselves never change. The character development is laughable, especially in arc 7 . Also the anime , especially season 2 , did not adapt the novels well enough , and i fear season 3 will cut a lot of Regulus's dialogue out.

Overlord is shit. Its main saving graces are the side characters like Neia, Evileye and the Pleiades.

Yup it's shit, simple as

>muh stakes
Every time. Bring actual criticism next time

I always knew what the author was going for but when he explicitly stated it, I knew then he was not going to budge one bit and was going full blown one dimension route.
>If this was a fantasy
The author dedeated his own point he was trying to make there.
I thought the factor of chance could come into play but nope, he is going full blown edge.
It's such a shame when it had so much potential. I have ideas for this story. But it might go against the author's beliefs. Since the story is antihero and such. Or not?
So there would be a complete turn around but it would be completely reasonable. I have the concepts. Basically the whole lot of them gets put together in a jail. They are immortal right? Sebas and pestonia betrays them. I could write a draft and send it to the author. But it depends on him.

I've never seen the show. it's not actually related to the game?

>no stakes
Stakes are a fucking meme concept. Does anyone who isn't going through the "baby's first..." experience actually get affected be these so-called stakes in any way? Oh what, MC could die? Well then the story would end early and you'd be angry at the author so obviously it's not going to happen. At most there'd be a cop-out of "MC gets captured" or such, meaning the stakes were fake or at least dishonest after all.
And yes characters who are not the MC can die for impact, but if THAT is the main purpose of "stakes" then it's really just an emotional manipulation tool for the author and character deaths are then nothing but mere plot devices, the characters often from the start written to be killed off eventually (e.g. typical mentor who ends up dying cliché, etc.).

In the end, whether someone wants to read something or not, all comes down to immersion. "Stakes" and also other meme concepts like "tension" are just subsets of immersion-inducers and some /lit/ faggots tell you that only these meme concepts like "stakes" and "tension" are good, but anything else they consider trash writing.

Things like world-building, which can create immersion for those who seek an organic setting, are looked down upon by those petty /lit/ elitists. They also come up with buzzwords such as "wish-fulfillment" and "self-insert", and worst of all: "(author-induced) escapism", all so they can pretend that their own "literature" is "high-culture" or something.
The term escapism is misused because it's supposed to be an exclusive audience-side trait. But due to these fake assertions it has devolved into nothing but "series with immersion that I don't like" or sometimes even trash series that don't have any immersion at all and therefore can't even be "escapist" to begin with, making the term an oxymoron as well.
What happened to "escapist behavior" referring to gamblers and gacha players? That's what it should be originally used for...

based quads

isekai is shit

>power fantasy
It's not. He lost the most important power from the very beginning - power over himself. His new nature overridden his very humanity. Now game basically plays him.

Stakes implies drama, suspense and potential surprise outcomes, losses bring growth on other fronts...
If done well. A stakeless story is like removing Newtonian opposition from force. Pure ego.
>MC dies
It is not the only stake. Nazarik could be a lesser force that has to use various means rather than having nukes against ants.. to get things their way, or to survive and grow.
But it is bs. There is no growth no story, just map painting.

What's the point of this thread? For example I started Kaguya-sama Love is War, didn't like it, and stopped watching after 2 episodes. Why would you force yourself to keep watching a show you don't enjoy? Untreated OCD?

Don't tell me people are still mad over Arche?

Literally best anime. Only moral faggots get butthurt by Overlord. Muh evil protagonist, I HATE HATE HATE and need to go on Any Forums to make a thread about it

Kek Overlord Season 4 coming out in July 2022
Motalfaggots get fucked

The mmo bullshit and the stupid "pay to win" weapons made really abhor this series.
Also it's boring as hell literally nothing happens in a lot of volumes, is just the same, MC lvl 100 vs people lvl 5 or 10.

>Things like world-building, which can create immersion for those who seek an organic setting, are looked down upon by those petty /lit/ elitists.
fucking lmao try actually browsing /lit/ once in a while

I dropped it at lizard squad

dont you bring the christians into this

You are correct and the fact that people think otherwise is a severe indictment of humanity.

>re zero
This. I really hated this anime, mainly because mc is such insufferable retard and sperg. The constant crying by mc was the worst. What happened to strong, cool, capable, ruthless and competent mcs who get transported to some isekai world and become kings or omipotent gods.

I am referring to people who act as if they were /lit/fags but actually post on Any Forums. Actual fags don't matter because they don't talk about Any Forums content anyway.

Erased is painfully mediocre. Ignore the "cucking", the story itself is pretty bad, extremely rushed, the pay off is subpar, and there are some headscratching moments. I don't understand how some people claim that Erased is a great anime

They would be called the immoral immortals.

Stories need conflict. "Stakes" is just one term to define most forms conflict that could be in a story. The lingo being used by pseuds doesn't automatically make it useless, just like deconstruction or any other buzzword.

Any Forums topics are often discussed on The problem is that Any Forums never talks about /lit/, Any Forums could become so much better if mangakas actually concentrated on art and let actual people with literary talent and skills handle story creation and story telling, at the very least asked for advice and guidance. I see so much wasted potential and hard work when new manga/anime comes out with top tier artand the most shitty tropy story.
