he did have the choice though even though "god" made him that way HE still chose to do that even if a god decided everything its not as if Griffith lived his life with free will and then the God of Evil every now and then took control of him.
He may have jumped out of the river every now and again but "god" had his path set for him. He lived out this path, there weren't 2 forces (griffith and god) controlling Griffith's body.

That's a gross misreading of a fundamental theme of Berserk, whether man possesses free will or if they're merely a plaything for forces greater than themselves. Miura pretty clearly is on the side of the former here, and we see characters/apostles who do refuse to sacrifice something too dear to them (the snail apostle guy and his daughter) so there is a choice and it's not technically forced upon you.

Griffith HAD a choice, and he was not mind controlled; the Eclipse is not merely theatrics for an already predestined outcome. He made the choice that to him was the most logical and natural and that's where it hurts the reader, because we understand his vulnerability at that moment and we understand maybe we would do the same as OP said. Free will exists in the Berserk universe, it just takes an insane amount of willpower to resist the sweetest deal with the devil.
