Old HxH anime is better than the newer one even if it didn't get as far in the story. The pacing, direction, and atmosphere were great. Felt like a real adventure and the story early on was reasonable enough to not be outrageous or suffer power creep. It was also somewhat comfy to watch and I have fond memories watching it. New HxH just seemed like average shounen-action rubbish that would skip any day.

it's unpredictable in a satisfying way and subtle with its characters which makes it better than every other battle shounen (shit like one piece is the least subtle, most repetitive shit you can get) and better than 99.99% of other anime/manga.

Because Yorkshin is actually great, that's it, the entire success of the whole series is based on a really good arc, everything else goes from average to just ok, I mean, that's pretty much how most popular series work so is nothing special.
