Slave castes have been used in war, but mostly in throwaway roles like shock troops and trench fodder. They get paid promises of freedom or citizenship, and if the survivors are lucky they might even be paid.

Nips didn't but the Nazis did it with troops from occupied countries and a lot of the Soviet conscripts they treated as disposable were "slant-eyes" from the Asiatic SSRs in WW2 rather than the more "stereotypical Russian" European Muscovites from the western end of the country.
