What do you think about the design of vehicles, buildings and machinery in Dragon Ball (and most of Toriyama’s other works)?
My personal favorites are Capsule Corp cars and WW2 military designs Toriyama used to do.

The rose tinted glasses effect isn't there, mostly.
I'm gonna be honest, if you're planning on going for it, read the manga first.
That one's actually a timeless good read if you aren't looking for some extremely deep story.
It's still good and has depth, and it's good regardless of how many times you read, but there are time where you can tell when the author made shit up along the way and if you really care about consistency in the story, it may become jarring.
The anime on the other hand, is going to be a lot more hit or miss, because it was adapted at roughly the same time as the manga was being published ; You could tell when they were trying to stall for time, people meme about all the posturing and 10 year long power-ups and stare-down contests, but they're real.
It sometimes really empowers scenes because you can feel the stakes, but when you're binge-watching 50 episodes, it gets old. There's also a lot of filler, which is not for everyone.
There's a LOT of good parts where the anime is blatantly superior to the manga, however.
TL;DR try the manga first, then maybe the anime.
