Jean was not unimportant to the story, but he was literally a plot device. He exists because author wanted that scene where Angie and Livia come to alzer and see Noelle with Leon while using chain and collar for some hilarious misunderstanding shenanigans. The dog couldn't have been Noelle's, it would be weird for someone to name a dog after themselves, and also he needed someone that can be beat up or put out of commission so he could be taking care of it, only so that he can write letters to his fiances about taking care of a dog named Elle for that juicy set up.

What I do dislike is that the personalities of the reincarnators don't really fit their age they're supposed to be.
Leon for example starts recognizing that the dreams he had are events from his past life, but instead, it's depicted as if the Japanese man that he was in his former incarnation simply took over the body of Leon.
Marie as well, whom we will find out that she died as an adult woman, but has the mentality of a small cute brat barely older than 12 at most in her new reincarnation as a new human.
