So I'm on ep24 of Evangelion, and I really don't understand what's so life-changing and incredible about it
It is a pretty good anime with some pretty interesting depictions of psychology and religious stuff, but nothing that seems to be amazing enough to be a 10/10 masterpiece classic. Honestly, the first 12 or so episodes were pretty boring and pretty much just standard anime shit.
Evangelion is literally Ultraman/Super Sentai monster-of-the-week, but with a depressed kid and wonky presentation. Stop letting teenagers tell you Eva is something it's not, they're retarded.
Mason Nelson
It’s only “life-changing” if you watch it when you are 14 and aren’t really familiar with the concepts it delves into, either through the media that inspired it or the media that came after it. Removed from that context it is just a good anime with some really nice designs, animation sequences, music, and a couple of cool storytelling quirks. Of course it’s impact on the anime industry itself can’t really be overstated, but that’s a different topic. Pro tip for the future: never go into any series, film, etc. expecting it to be mindblowingly good because you are just basing your expectations off of the most vocal diehard fans and are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Just watch the ending you obnoxious fucking retard What is the point of this thread? You couldn't wait 3 more hours? Do you only need to watch the first 90% of a work before you feel qualified to comment on it?

>Are eps25-26 and EoE gonna change my mind? They might.
Christopher Phillips
>i build retardetly high expectations for a series i watch and get annoyed when those expectations aren't achieved
Frankly I liked the slice of life feel of first half, it was comfy and soulful cause I found characters interesting. Then in later half it feels like mad dash to finish line as it is just a mess, even production wise. Eva could have been one of my favourite pieces of media. But it ends with just feeling like a wasted potential.

>religious stuff You're unironically thinking too deeply about it.
Its life changing for some people, me included, because it personally affected us a lot. Eva really spoke to me and haunted me like almost no other story has. Thats really all there is to it. The religious imagery, weird psychology, and surreal stuff all added to it, but in the end, I just loved it.
Jason Adams
It has impact if you see one of the characters and say "he/she is literally teenage me". If you don't, it's not going to strike so close to home.
Isaac Barnes
>So I'm a fucking retard Good to know OP, I guess.
dude just watch the last two episodes they're gonna blow you're freaking MIND bro. make sure to smoke a fat blunt before you watch them tho xD
Jason Stewart
If you go into any series expecting it to be life changing of course you're going to be let down
Landon Baker
Idk. I didn't really identify with any if the characters on that level, but the last 2 episodes really fucked my mind up when I watched it a year or so ago. I was way past adolescence too.
Evan Gonzalez
It's essentially simulating adolescent ego-death. I was pretty disappointed when I rewatched it and it didn't hit again.
Lucas Edwards
If you cant identify with feelings of being alone/isolated and being scared of communicating or fostering relationships with other people, evangelion is mediocre
Thomas Morris
sometimes pieces of media that completely change the landscape of an entire medium don't look that amazing in retrospect. you don't really have a good handle on pre-eva and post-eva anime because you grew up in a post-eva world. it's still a solid series but yeah to a modern viewer it's nothing special except the music is good and some of the fight scenes are cool.
Samuel Watson
It won't. Eva is only impressive to kids and depressed teenagers.
