How would you rate the menu at Eden Academy and why?

>No fish and chips

>Omurice

Its supposed to be a western country. It has too much rice on the menu. Wheres the pork? Where are noodles, beyond mac and cheese.

Too japanese

>pork in Ostania
You wot mate?

Also they need more types of cheese. More types of beef, different slices.

>cunny not on the menu

Devil's advocate: the Bri'ish love their curry, and despite the culture of Ostania probably being intended as East German the main language is implied to be English based on the signs, the test Anya did and the writing on Yor's boxes.

>Wheres the pork? Where are noodles, beyond mac and cheese.
Ostania being East Germany, I'm more surprised at the total absence of potatoes. Unless it's implied the beef, chicken and hamburger come with a side of potatoes, which would make sense as they're all rather light on their own.

Explain this meme.

>mac and cheese

You can have "fancy" mac and cheese, but in general I agree. Also wheres eggs?

Weird lack of breakfast items considering there are dorms at the school. Unless it's a time sensitive menu that changes throughout the day.

>meat sauce spaghetti
>aglio e olio
>Squid ink spaghetti

Why is their menu in English and not in German?

>Omurice
>Hamburg steak
You'd think that with the internet Japanese people would know what food isn't eaten outside of Japan.

Same reason Anya's test was in English, the Bakery sign in episode 1 was in English, the text on Yor's boxes while moving was in English and the Housemaster literally uses the English phrase "Elegant boy". We've literally heard more French (Anya saying "oui" before going to school for no real eason) than German.

I can't read anything with your shitty streaming screenshot, you dumb faggot

The Japanese are even worse than Americans in not understanding that not every culture is like them.

There seem to be obvious flaws with this menu. Look how much of that options is dedicated to desert.

Remember that this is a school. This is the cafeteria for children. Think back to your 8 year old self, and then look at this menu that you are ordering from without your parents supervision. How many donuts and cookies and scones are you ordering every day? Because I'm guessing its 'as many as they will let me'.

The thing is, omelettes and hamburgers are foriegn-originating food. To the Japanese, that isn't traditional japanese food.

Its like how we call asian takeout food chinese food, despite the fact that it is little in common with actual food in China. The Japanese consider omelette rich and hamburg steak to be 'western style' food.

What the hell is Acerola and I thought kids hate eggplant?

The setting is supposedly Hungary-inspired but you gotta keep in mind that manga is often made by people that have seldom left their room, let alone Japan.
"Doing research" for mangaka usually stops at doing a google image search, making a moodboard, then never looking anything up again.

Go get a glasses, grandpa

Here's my take: notice how the board is sub-divided into four sub-boards (the off-screen segment on the left appears to be a different board that repeats what's on the board we can fully see). Also notice how we never see anyone paying, or even have an implication that the food is paid for. That implies that lunch costs are covered in the tuition fees and as such the menu is probably to some degree standardized.

It seems to imply that your lunch allows you to pick one option from every sub-board. For example, Anya's lunch could've been
>Cocoa (we know that's her favored drink) as her drink
>Omurice (we actually saw her eat it on-screen) as her meal
>Sandwich as her side dish
>A single slice of pound cake as her dessert (notice how all the desserts are named in the singular: donut, cookie, scone et cetera)

A single piece of dessert isn't going to hurt you, especially considering Eden Academy seems to place more emphasis on physical activity than your average high school (you can earn Stella with outstanding athletic achievements the same way you can earn them for outstanding academic achievements)

>Research
I remember when there's a manga where the characters supposed to came from an island and the island is a mish mash of Bali architectures, Papuan people and Okinawan culture. It was obvious she simply draw from her last vacation mixed with googling about indigenous people.

>Aglio e olio
There's literally a dish out there with nothing but garlic and olive oil?

Those are the meme "italian dishes" you'll find in every single Italian restaurant in Japan, the same way the "Eggplant and Meat Sauce" is actually a chinese dish that got modified and popularized in Japanese western-ish restaurants, to the point that most Japanese probably think it's actually "Western Food", instead of just "Chinese food but cooked in a way that Japs think feels Western".

This menu is like a crystallization of how insular Japan is, down to their minds.

It's way more common as Aglio, olio e peperoncino, something you make when the cupboard's empty or you don't feel like making something complicated.
In Japan the "peperoncino" part is often omitted since they don't do well with hot spices.
