it's a basic story done well because of how the gameplay interacts with the plot. By no means revolutionary, but pretty neat all the same

how the hell is a normal person even expected to keep up with the Nier universe? The games are canon, the novels are canon, crossovers are canon, the stage plays, orchestra skits, some bullshit pamphlet on the side of the road 3 years ago are all canon.

This. My fucking face when the FF XIV contained a fucking Seed of Destruction. Taro just doesnt give a fuck what platform his canon is delivered on. Its all important and connected in some way

My only theory is that he doesnt want a normal person to be able to fully pick up on it. He wants them to enjoy what is infront of them but then have the experience of their minds being blown when/if they actually take the time to look into his universe and see how things actually are.

Its an approach to storytelling that only someone who is absurdly confident in his work or who is literally fucking insane could pull off. Jury is still out on which one Taro is.
