I don't think you can understand the plot without reading the VN, 95% of the exposition was cut out. But for what it was it did a good job

Idk, I haven't watched it. VN was alright, UBW is still my favorite though.

It's a good adaptation. Trims all the napping out. Let's the visual medium due to heavy lifting over exposition dumps.

Heaven’s Feel trilogy was fan service for VN readers who already know what’s going on.
So on one hand it wasn’t a great adaptation, on the other hand get fucked animeonlys.

I preferred the VN except for a few things like lancer vs assassin, but that said I also dropped the vn and came back to it a few times around the 30-40% mark
