Eh, I'd have to reread the context to remember what they were trying to say with that line. But in general Dabi's main problem is that he has the same obsessive tendency as Endeavor. Which was fine as long as he was a worthy heir and daddy loved him and spent time with him. Then he turned out to be "defective" because his quirk harmed him, and daddy stopped loving him and spending time with him, and started trying to replace him. At which point the obsessive tendency he'd inherited from Endeavor drove him sort of insane.

Is there a way they could have made the Tododrama feel better for you all? I’m not as disappointed with some of the recent chapters as some of you are, but I’ll admit I’m not that interested in Dabi as-is. It’s hard to really place why. Maybe it would’ve been better if they’d gotten it out of the way earlier, so it didn’t interrupt the final battle?
