is Hajime No Ippo a good show to watch for the first time in 2022 or is it some 'you had to be there' generic shonen shit like Yuyuhakusho, Inuyasha, or DBZ that people only like because nostalgia
i want to get into boxing(for fitness) and liked Ashita No Joe / Megalo Box if that elps
You'll like it. It's more focused on the sport aspect and training so it easily motivated you to start working out yourself. Ashita no Joe was more of a coming of age drama (which is why I find it better than Ippo) but for what you're looking for, Ippo is good.
It does play out like a typical shounen, mc is a weakling at first and gets bullied, then it turns out he has a talent for boxing, joins a gym, starts training and entering tournaments, moves up the rankings etc but it has a lot of good points. The comedy is good (it's similar to GTO if you've seen that), Ippo's rivals and in general most of his opponents (even those who show up for 1-2 eps) get fleshed out and feel like they could be the main character, there's specific training and strategy for each match etc. I would suggest dropping it after the first season because the characters became stale and the story is moving in circles and the matches start to play out in the same way, but I'm sure if you make it to episode 75 you'll want to keep watching. But just a heads up that it does get worse.

HnI boxing is fantasy bullshit but the first anime + the movie and the Kimura OVA are really good. The later seasons aren't any good because they have shit sound design and shit soundtrack.
Nicholas Edwards
I watched it for the first time a couple of years back and thought it was great up until the 2013 series which I dropped 5 episodes in.

im fine watching only the 1st season, it's hard to bring myself to watch any show
my one final question is, should i watch the SUB or DUB? they're both on youtube
Joseph Cruz
Watched it for the first time in 2020. It's the best show ever.
Mason White
Sub. If only because the dub take liberties a lot more than it needs to and at times tries to present it as Rocky if it were an anime. If you enjoy it, there's nothing stopping you from watching the dub later.
Isaac Fisher
>youtube >sub or dub Get the fuck off this board

Look at this thread, user. You seriously think someone who would make of thread and list YYH, Inuyasha and DBZ within the same post as Ashita no Joe wouldn't be watching anime on Youtube?
Ethan Sullivan
>and list YYH, Inuyasha and DBZ within the same post as Ashita no Joe What's wrong with that? He likes the good one and shits on the mediocrities.
Angel Clark
Amazing comedy
Gabriel Collins
I'd actually want my memories of it deleted so I can watch Ippo again. It's really that great
William Gomez
ippo S1 was a great mix of of everything comedy, action, drama, "real" anecdotes, animation, OP - even the OVA with kimura was goat
then the digicrap conversation for s2 / s3 i didnt bother to watch, what a slog. you could easily ignore those entries
Adam Jenkins
One of my favorite anime of all time and I'm really not into older shonen usually
Caleb Garcia
>youtube I respect it. I used to watch anime on YouTube when I was like 10/11 years old (pokemon, Naruto, one piece, etc). Those were good days, before youtube went to shit

>Missing out on the best fight in the series Takamura vs Hawk Yikes
Logan Robinson
It's good. Give it a watch.
Matthew Wood
S2 has the best fight in all of anime.
Connor Ramirez
Watch it all subbed. It's set in Japan, go with the native language, always.
