Ghost in the Shell

So, how does SAC compare to the original film?

Haven't seen either but I think SAC is better. It expands on the concepts of the original, while also adding more worldbuilding and character moments

SAC is decent. The film is dog shit. Thank god Oshii stopped raping GiTS after those 2 awful films.

Movie is good, but the show is more enjoyable

you disliked the original movie wtf?

different from the movie, but still really good. I think the first movie is the best, but sac is really close behind it. it's so far superior to the awful second movie

What do you mean by original? It's a manga adaptation.

A+++ fan service + some great jokes in SAC. Shame that the latest show was all CGI and that the online game got shutdown, I think the franchise is in a really odd place right now and they need to either bring Arise back or come up with another good reboot. I can't go too long without muh horny sci-fi kino.

Only the movie is worth watching for all the nudity it has, the rest of the franchise is too tame or outright Murican produced grabage.

Yes I did. It was the first time I fell asleep watching anime. Style over substance is a tumor that needs to be eradicated.

no it isn't, dumb tranny

This is nu-Any Forums, shit taste is the norm.

just watch porn. I can't even get hard to this. I bet it'd be different if you were a kid with a dvd/VHS back then though.

I don't have to watch SAC to know it's a billion times worse than Oshii's masterpieces

Same goes for your buzzword sentence you parroted from Any Forums because you don't know how to articulate your own opinions. desuarchive.org/_/search/boards/co.desu.meta/text/All style, no substance/

SAC is a classic. Simple as

Also is it true it's one of the most expensive japanese serialised anime ever?

calling someone a tranny to "win" the argument is old. get on the new Any Forums meta

I watched the first movie and I liked the visuals, the soundtrack, the overall gestalt of the mega-city and the disjunction between theology/philosophy and transhumanism.

I read the original manga and enjoyed the other adventures of the Major and Batou.

Never watched anything else in the GITS franchise. I just assumed that all the spinoffs and movies and hollywood optioning the rights to it were just petty cashgrabs.

It's like movies in america: You watch the first one and then let it go, because all the sequels are just desperately trying to capitalize on the original's successes. Something gets lost in that scramble for shekels.

I liked SAC but not as much as the film. For me, the main issue was the tone and general lack of speed in the plot. The high points of the film included the dreariness of the future which was conveyed really well, whereas SAC is sort of a buddy cop structure especially in the first season. Sure, the movie didn't have the most complex issues and ideas but it didn't feel like SAC did either. The only episodes I can remember which explored deep topics that aren't too run of the mill for sci fi were the robot episode where they aped the 2001 Hal scene and some episodes at the end where they get part geopolitical and part sociological. Most of everything else is story centric, ie The General Who's been said to die a bunch of times but he keeps getting a new body. They don't explore far enough in episodes like that to give it an edge in my mind over the film
