"Nice" means literally nothing. It's what you say to somebody when you can't actually think of something good or praiseworthy to say. It's like if you look at something and say it's "interesting" without saying why. When you aren't anything but "nice" you're uninteresting, and your only actual positive trait is that keeping you around is at least a tiny net benefit because you're inoffensive and passive so you at least won't shove a knife in somebody's spine.

The point of all this is that the main character of a story absolutely should not be uninteresting. Somebody attracted to them shouldn't have to struggle to come up with a reason to like them,

This is literally the fantasy of a little boy which is the main demographic of those series, since they have almost no experience with talking to girls yet, the more relatable scenario for a love story they can relate to is girls literally falling in love with them for no actual reason.
