Also typical of these things of that era where it's one of those situations where the main character is voiced pretty well, but a lot of the transient side characters are a bit iffy.

It's okay. Saitou and Yahiko are good, Sanosuke's VA phoned it in which really sucks. Steven Blum as Shishio fits well though, really if you're watching the dub the standouts are him and the guy who does Kenshin

I've finished the main manga yesterday and Shishio's oneshot prequel today.

Holy fuck a lot of the voices are bad, basically only Sanosuke (Lex Lang) and Shishioh (Steve Blum) give consistently good performance, everyone else is all over the place where sometimes they can actually emote in the way the scene requires and others they're completely wooden and flat.

I disagree, but I think he was going for something completely different from the original seiyuu. That being said, he's at least consistent in how he sounds.

Honestly? Genuinely surprised more than anything else. There's usually some indication the author is a degen in the work, but there's nothing in RK that trips that wire. The only thing I picked up on was how much he liked western comics since he put gambit and venom lookalikes into his story.

I finally read Kenshin the other week. It's overall enjoyable but the Shishio arc was really a cut above the rest. One of the best shonen arcs if you ask me.
