Yes but that is usually because because of the rotating writers and butting heads. Roger Stern always intended for Roderick Kingsley to be the Hobgoblin, it was Christopher Priest who decided to reveal it was Ned Leeds instead, the reason for the Hobgoblin Lives story is because Stern was back and Priest was off the book.
