The issue fans have with luffy now being Nika and a "sun god" is that we have 0 emotional association. Since when is the sun relevant in the story of One Piece?

The power up itself is just awakening and everyone expected it to be his final power up, Nika or not. It's pretty much what you'd expect from a gum gum awakening anyway.

The dumbest thing about all of this is that it's called a gear. It has nothing to do with the gears and already has its own category: Awakening. It's like Oda's assistans left him.
