To expand on this, his mom, brother, and Shin, can all feel "unspoken words" of his relatives. The mom was a princess of the Maika of Pyropes, I think. When Shin "died" or had a near death experience, I personally theorize that the dead people became his "relatives," which is why he can hear their thoughts.
