I only watched the first 8 ovas so far and enjoyed them. Is Crash and 2042 just as good?

no idea, I'm starting with tokyo 2040 and it's pretty good, certainly enjoying the 'men are the background characters while sexy women do the cool stuff' format.

Crash is a bit of a mess, bit still worth sticking around for if you liked the original.
2040 at least has a complete story that was planned out from the start and, even though it has the stink of post-EoE mecha on its ending, it's still a satisfying conclusion to the story arc it was telling.
The techno nu-rock music mostly sucks, tho. At least compared to the glorious poofy 80s original.

yeah the original soundtrack is maximum, it's a shame it wasn't as good

I've been collecting the original bubblegum crisis eps on vhs, but it's english dubs (so i can leave it on in the background for parties or whatever)

anybody know if the original songs are in the english dubs? I tried referencing online but got vague results

i just moved into a new place and haven't pulled my VCRs out of storage yet before someone crawls up my ass about it

You mean the characters talking in English until the songs come up and switch to Jap? No, they redid all the songs in English, even the ones that weren't diegetic. They're really not bad.

Now, Tokyo 2040 also translated the songs, but neither English nor Jap Priss sounded very good for the rock songs. Strangely, Priss got a scene near the end where she got to sing a more heartfelt song that sounded really good. I just have the dub version on hand, and it does contain some spoilers, though I don't think without context, it'll spoil too much.
