from what I understand they had to basically send everyone else home while IT meticulously scrubs every single device on their company intranet for for any malware or edited files (like, say, a dead person being slipped back onto the payroll with a new, ocerseas bank account listed)

It's been 2 weeks though, surely you'd only need a week at most to check and fix stuff like that.
