I've been waiting for the childhood thing to be addressed since the first flashback, and it was so fucking anticlimatic.
What was even the point if Mikoto forgot everything about it? Why did he even get into badminton if he forgot he used to play with Tatsu as a child?
If he instead had kept the memory as a precious thing and even went back to it sometimes as a motivation for pursuing his badminton dream (and had only forgotten Tatsu's face) would have made so much more emotional their reunion. Hell, it's even more realistic, he wasn't that young in the flashback as to forget everything about it.

I don't even understand why it was necessary in the first place. It wasn't a huge twist that changed MC's attitude or anything. He could as well remember everything and it's just us, the audience, who were still missing some pieces. Then he thinks back of that time and decides to run to search for Tatsu.
The memory loss was completely unnecessary.
