People started leaving the studio since 2018, before GS aired. Then most of the talented people left to created that studio that did Mushoko, more people left and now it's basically just Re Zero director and few people left in WF, but they did say they were hiring more people last year.

Seems pretty reasonable to me, user. The impressive visuals were part of the appeal. Also, that kind of reasoning is akin to "dude, it's good if you ignore the bad stuff!".
Also, from what I remember, the animation isn't just worse, it's actually sub-par when compared to most shows. Might be misremembering though. I also vividly remember the direction just being WAY worse than before.
