I don't know, what I know is that One Piece sales have been decreasing progressively year by year in Japan.
Last year even Tokyo Revengers surpassed it in sales. The days when One Piece was the unbeatable number one in Oricon rankings are over.

Wow, Japanese fans are vocal about the new chapter and they are not happy. They're discontented with the way chapter 1044 is drawn and the whole wano arc. I guess they were holding out hope for not a chosen one asspull that retcons the whole manga while beeing a 7 quirks asspull at the same time. There's even a petition that's garnered thousands of signatures to have the chapter remade. Obviously that wont happen but it shows how unhappy they are.
