Are tropes inherently bad?

I was reading old anime blogs from the 2000s and early 10s and the most common sentiment I saw was that anime cliches bad, subversion and deconstruction good. It seems that an agreement was stuff that strayed away as far as possible from anime is the "objectively good and valuable" anime and everything else is pandering, trashy repetition that's holding back anime from being SERIOUS RESPECTED ART. I know Miyazaki's spiel years later added fuel to the fire and caused a lot of introspection amongst fans. Do anons agree with any of this? If you aren't making something with the intent to shake up the status quo then why bother and so on?

I seriously thought my own internal monologue is bad but this is just bullshit. Also, that Misato cosplayer, I'd take her to a very special staircase far away.

No, also westerners opinions don't matter and they are less and less relevant to the industry
Reminder that the majority of "overseas" revenue is actually far and southeast asian countries

execution is all that matters. you can make something edgy/cringe or generic cool by setting it up right.

Subversion and deconstruction are tropes too.

This. It's how you sell it.

I think it mostly depends on whether you enjoy anime as art or entertainment. Both are equally valid, and your standards are entirely subjective.
People who view anime as the former either want to see something original they haven't seen before or if its unoriginal, make it better than everything else they've seen.
People who view anime as the latter can be happy with getting more of something they've already got as long as they enjoyed it the first time around. Even if its not quite as well done.

I draw the line at power levels

>muh tropes
Just stop. It's entertainment. Do you have fun? Did you like it? Yes? No? Good. Next.

people don't get that evangelion's "poking fun" at otaku fanservice and sexualizing underage girls still is partaking in otaku fanservice and sexualizing underage girls. it's not smart or above trashy inferior anime.

this whole thread is a trope

Tropes aren't inherently bad, but if shows rely on them it's just really lazy and it makes the show really boring and predictable. When I watched Bokutachi no Remake I felt like I could predict half the events in the show because it relied on tropes so hard and I ended up hating it.

complaints of tropes come from people that realized they arent unique but cant accept the fact that they arent the hero of everyones stories.
Complaining about tropes in media is futile, when there are numeros psychological studies that prove tropes are a thing in our world too, they only go by different names (like code, social structure, roles etc). Its only natural for people to act similarly when they live in the same city, go to the same school and they are the same age. Tropes an integral part of a belivable story, espetially if you want to tell one deprived of supernatural elements

I bet the writers of these blogs are either trannies or killed themselves by now.

probably both and I hope at least the latter

Height diff is lit and the heels make it even better.

There's a high chance those people don't actually like anime and are thus revolted at common elements.

There's also a high chance those people like upvotes.
