Sunk cost is a thing. This series has been going on for 25 years. I have been reading it for about 7 years, so I have spent a considerable amount of time reading One Piece. If this was any other shorter series in its 300ish chapter, I'd drop the story immediately. This chapter is, objectively, by all means possible, the worst decision Oda has ever made in his life. This is bad, really bad. There's no point in trying to cope by coming up with explanations that will fill the plot holes that have been created in this day. We can still appreciate the good aspects of the story and keep reading it, but from this day forward, let's agree that this is the lowest point of the story, just like the GoT and AoT fandom agreed that the ending of those series represented their greatest flaw in terms of storytelling.
