Luffy becoming like that is the best given his nature. It was foreshadowed and hyped up since Roger, the most OP character laughed at the nugatory of his journey in the face the overwhelming ethereal nature of JoyBoy. There was also many references of the notion of freedom being related to the endgoal. So Luffy having toon like powers without any restriction, full of freedom from his world system is only fitting. And any other kind of awakening would not be as cathartic. It is a new thing and very in line with the nature of it's story. So there is no reason for this uproar.

It's a good development, sure, mainly because it was established before (this is probably a new set of ideas though, as Oda's editors over the years have obviously influenced his work for good or bad). The transformation looks like shit, though, Luffy's pupils look like Oda's getting fucking Parkinson's, Gear Second was the perfect transformation for Luffy in that sense. There's another problem, if Oda doesn't develop on Luffy's freewill and makes him at least concerned with knowing he's some sort of chosen one, that his fruit was meant to be his, and that by fulfilling such a prophecy he's not actually free in a sense, this manga is beyond saving and Oda has dropped the ball for full-blown power level shit, which would be really sad. There should be a conflict in all of this, an internal dilema for Luffy; and One Piece NEEDS to move on for at least a couple chapters from minute of the main battle-chapter shit feat. 10 reaction faces per shitty spread, I know that's asking too much, but Oda CAN really write manga, and if he's getting worse in the art department now, at least he could develop the plot better now, he's got a great chance to do so, but it's quite easy to fuck things up with weekly manga, he knows that. Problem is, almost every single arc on One Piece has ended at least decently, so he can't fuck the ending up, Otherwise Wano would feel like a big nothing.

This. Yamato could have been Oden's baby that Kaidou took in over killing her because he felt bad for defeating Oden by that old lady's trick. Then he raised her as his daughter without Orochi knowing, but then a young Yamato finds Oden's journal and learns how great he was and starts to want to be like him and help the people of Wano not knowing he is her father. Then you could have had this great reveal of her finding out Oden is her real father.
But I guess if that happened she wouldn't be this 10 foot tall girl with horns.
