The problem isn't the pay-off, it's the build-up.

Garou's memory is better in the manga because he remembers Saitama earlier, the punch is enough to jog his memory since it can't knock him out anymore.
Saitama's is worse because Garou's name doesn't immediately ring the bell.

He made every fight super cool and over the top, he made Garou's design super cool but he forgot about everything else. There's no tension, Garou isn't scary. Its impossible to take his "i'm going to become the supreme monster" stuff in Murata's version because he has been treated like a joke character for the past 5 chapters

How far has the webcomic gone? I've only seen the anime but if the entire story has just been building up Garou and Saitama slaps his shit unceremoniously, what do they do after that?
