Why has modern anime been so disappointing? I finally got around to these three, the most praised and hyped seasonals of last year, and they were all lackluster for different reasons. Is the bar really this low?

>The so called isekai for smart people, Shingo Natsume's first original is just artsy nonsense with flat non-characters that don't matter and you don't care for. Nothing in the show matters. There's no catharsis. It's just a waste of time mystery box show. It attracted the elitist pseud crowd of anons who like those mediocre 2000s anime like Tex and Kaiba but it somehow does everything much worse than those shows. For having MUH AUTEUR ARTHOUSE VISION it sure blew lots of dicks and I forgot it immediately after it was over. It referenced literature so you know it's really smart.
>Odd Taxi had mediocre animation and direction and the plot, characters and dialogue weren't as smart and unique as many said it did. Interesting success story in that the writer and director never worked in anime and the show wasn't going to have Blurays in case it failed yet it ended up getting lots of praise and a big fandom.
>Ousama Ranking had potential and blew it. It's very confused and messy. Also extremely emotionally manipulative akin to brainless moeshit shows where you have the cute moeblob character with a disability who cries and you go AWWWW like the automaton bugman you are. Once again a show that was extremely hyped by the community after the first few episodes for how gorgeous and NOT GENERIC ANIME the art style was but it's all wasted on what just ended up being mediocre shonenshit that doesn't know what it's trying to be or say. There's no real substance to it.

I'm not shitposting. I'm tired of anons here expecting me to jerk off any show solely for having MUH AESTHETICS AND VISION. There's nothing to any of these shows, they just aren't high school isekais with the bright hair so they're the lesser evil yet I hate grading evils. I just want a good show and I don't like seeing mediocrity be praised. I also forgot about Heike Monogatari which was also pretty shitty and rushed.

there's nothing novel about sonny boy. it just looked cool and had nice music. yes yes you need to experience pain and suffering in order to grow as a person. it's just didactic garbage dressed up as something more.

Why not just read a fucking book if you don't care about aesthetics in anime?
