Which is why it stung harder when it eventually crashed and burned.
Sure, FT got pretty bad, but its final arc was merciful compared to giving us a fakeout epilogue, followed by another final battle against the final boss they literally just beat, and then a shorter battle agaist a "final" final boss done specifically to set up the sequel, all of this dragging it out for nearly an entire extra year.
