It wasn't cancelled. Both the voice actor of Ichigo and the director said in an interview in April 2012 a month after the anime ended that it will return.

the filler arcs arrived during the most important part. it also got extremely cheap on and the audience dropped. but to be fair. i'm reading the manga and the anime took some really retarded liberties. arrancars appear on chapter 25 for exemple. and for some reason the anime staff changed a bunch of scnes and made new ones to force ichigo with rukia even though it was never a thing in the manga. the makes, even the one-shot, makes it clear about ichigo and orihime being end game. rukia also cared more about renji getting trashed during the Soul Society arc than ichigo
