Who cares about the shipping. If you actually did read it up to vol 6, then it's pretty clear you never liked the series to begin with with these kinds of garbage opinions. The pacing in in the first three volumes is fucking terrible and is the reason why the anime had to make up so much original stuff to fill in the blanks. The volumes after don't have this issue.

The first volumes just work with the much more interesting ideas, starting in the hopeless war of enslaved childsoldiers fighting for the very regime that wants to genocide them, or volume 2 about these fucked-up kids trying and failing to integrate into a civil society, instead willingly going back to the battlefield. Yeah, the pacing is far from perfect, but the actual ideas are way more interesting.
