No you misunderstand. I'm not saying that *Mari* shipped them. I'm just saying that that's what evageeks said as a "theory". There were some nip boards that complained and said they felt misled because of this. It turns out that that theory came from evageeks.

Yeah, it really was a waste that they didn't do anything with ReiQ other than dying. I really do feel like they could've done a beautiful "disgruntled senpai, optimistic kouhai" kinda thing where Rei, Shinji and the rest help Asuka out of her rut. Something where she's able to think back to the elevator scene and realize the weight of Rei's words, and that the two of them would've been friends had it not been for tragedy.
Makes me wish 4.0 was some OVAs rather than a single movie, there's plenty of instances where they could do something cool with the character work, but then they balk and all you have left is missed potential, but what else is new?
