I mean, she still is reclusive. Sometimes she has evens with other people, but she doesn't REALLY have friends. Actually, most recent chapter is very interesting because I think for the first time we see someone that was an actual friend for Itai-san. I hope we see more of her.
He's not that milquetoast... though he is pretty pathetic, but he's not THAT bad. He was introduced as a bit of a womanizer, which makes me think he wouldn't work well with Itai-san. Itai-san deserves someone that will sooth here insecurities, because she's full of complexes while pretending she's fine, and horribly failing at it.
Also, Shiraishi is a but cute himself, with creaming himself over the mildest "progress" he has with Itai.

How'd they manage to make comedy that's actually funny? I guess by the fact the humor coming from the characters' own shitty personalities and the awkward situations they wind up in being much more universal than typical Japanese style comedy.
