Last chapter we got Mashiba of all people acknowledging Ippo after his insane title win and off to the world champion bout. It took a long time but it was worth the pay off.

Considering how Sendo vs. Gonzales played out, where Ippo's involvement was also key to winning; it seems like that was what the author had planned, but this trend started with Vorg's world title match, where the latter called out his bond with Sendo and Ippo. All of Ippo's contemporaries will acknowledge his efforts before moving on to the world, then it's Ippo's turn.
Even on the outside looking in he's helped Aokimura. We'll likely see the same with Itagaki and even that jackass Miyata before Ippo returns to the ring.

Though it's taken forever, I've always loved the slow-burn the author has with this series.
I hope Mashiba actually starts dating the leader of his fanclub's daughter. Even if she's older, the idea of Mashiba getting into a relationship and making progress before Ippo and Kumi who've been a thing for nearly a decade, is just fucking hilarious.

It feels like not only Sawamura is going to come back, but he'll likely be part of Mashiba's camp with Ippo when he challenges the world, just so Ryo's character can come full circle and Ryuuhei's can get some form of closure, given his career as a boxer is over. If not with Mashiba, it'd be weird if Ryuuhei isn't there with Sendo, since you know after whatever happens with Wally vs. Ricardo we're definitely going to have Sendo's match in Japan.

Right now I'm in the mindset of "God this series is going so fucking slow. I can't stand it, I'm so uninterested." and "dropped" Ippo over a year ago. I check in on these threads every now and then at best. As a note to myself and anyone else who feels this way, I feel like many, many years into the future I'll appreciate this story being as long as it is. It's going to end at some point, one way or another, whether George dies or he actually figures out what his endgame is and then goes deep as fuck.
Just a random user typing random shit out that won't be relevant for probably 15+ years. I'll have long since forgotten I made this post, and at some point years will go by with me having forgotten all about this series.
I guess it'd be pretty insane to enter my 30s, remember Ippo, look at the chapter count, and see it's still going and possibly well over 2000. Maybe it'll be over, or it'll keep on going. Definitely one of those series's I'm going to read a couple of times before I die. Ippo has a special place in my heart, and I think it's given me an appreciation for long-term stories. The current market makes it impossible for a lot of creators to unleash the full extent of their creative and writing potential, so ultimately I should be grateful that Ippo can have gone on for so long. Can you imagine if this shit got rushed? Holy fuck, that'd be horrific.
